Life On The Plot In January

I’ve been itching to get to the allotment this month.  The weather hasn’t been very helpful and I’ve been feeling a bit on the rough side with a very annoying cough.  It’s thankfully clearing up now and I hope to get on the lottie this weekend even if it’s for a couple of hours.

Thursday was a particularly nice morning, bright blue skies and the birds were happily singing away.  Camera in hand I popped out for a while.  I need to get my January picture for our allotment calendar.  I was on the hunt to find any colour I could find in winter.   Everywhere is so muddy brown and green at the moment, I wasn’t hopeful… but I was very wrong… 😀Beautiful Pink MagentaBright Magenta ColourLeeksI picked a few carrots for Daisy & Alvin while I was there… crunchy and earthy smelling 🙂 Delicious!

Lottie CarrotsBringing Home a Mini HarvestI was quite shocked to find this naughty watering can who has decided to pierce a nice hole in our greenhouse! This is on the repairs list.

Carrots that we pulled up and left on the plot on Christmas Day that didn’t quite make make the cut to be on our dinner plate have turned a nice pink colour…Pink CarrotsRaindops

I’ve never tried chard before, it looks bright and cheery on the allotment, I think I might have a try at growing this.Beautiful Bright ChardSo pretty colourful all in all and I had a lovely walk around on my little mission.  I haven’t chosen my picture for January yet.  There are more pictures on facebook… 🙂  I’m going to be shovelling barrows full of poop for my strawberry bed on Sunday if the weather stays fine. Lovely!

    • Arh thanks 😀 I think the pink flowers look like blossom (I know they’re not but I’m not quite sure what they are!?) I’m doing the sun dance as we speak, fingers crossed for a sunny sunday 😀 Have a great weekend x

  1. Oh your allotment looks do marvellous compared to our waterlogged one. No abundance of colour other than the enormous beetroots that are still going strong. I love your idea of an allotment calendar. I’m going to steal that if I may?

    • There seems to be lots going on on everyone’s lottie at the moment 🙂 lots of winter veg with the odd little flower here and there! We’ve just got leeks, sprouts and a few parsnips left on ours. Of course you can take the calendar idea 🙂 I’d love to see it when you’re done 🙂 x
