Hi everyone
Apologies for the long absence! Time has just got away with me these past few months. Thought I’d share something with you I saw today…
Walking with Jassy, I spotted on the floor a little tree bumble bee??? Very lethargic, very cold – so we had to cut the walk short to bring her home… My first wellBEEing patient of 2016! I honestly didn’t think I’d bee seeing any bees for a good few months yet?
Bless the bees! Love them so much I called my little dog Bea. I’ve just found your lovely blog Karrie, I need to read all I can as I’ve just moved house and there is an allotment here ready to go! But I don’t know very much at all, but I’ve loads of enthusiasm to learn. Is there anywhere I can go to for advice? I live in Cheshire near Holmes Chapel. Thanks. Kx
Hi Kate thanks for getting in touch π books and websites are a great help but if you want something more practical you could look for a course to do? I did a course at DebDale Eco centre in Gorton which was kind of a crash course in growing. Alternatively getting stuck in and asking people on your allotment site is really helpful! They have a wealth of knowledge π good luck let me know how you get on! Xx
The mild winter up until now fooled lots of wildlife into emerging too soon, I hope this little one makes it xx
I know it’s terrible for them! It’s confusing!? She’s buzzed off or is hiding in the leaves I think, wish I could have kept her in all night! Xx
Buff-tailed bumblebee colonies have regularly kept going during winter in southern England for a few years now, but I haven’t seen a tree bumblebee this early before. She was lucky you found her. You could report your sighting to BWARs: http://www.bwars.com/index.php?q=content/submit-sighting-winter-active-bumblebees – they may be excited to see the video.
